Phase I Survey

Phase I intensive archaeological surveys utilize shovel test pits and surface inspection to locate archaeological sites. The information collected is used to determine if the sites found are eligible for the National Register of Historical Places based on the criteria outlined in Section 106 of the National Historic Preservatoin Act. Phase I survey is the most common type of field-based archaeological project.

Phase II Site Evaluations

Phase II site evaluations serve to collect additional information to make a final determination whether a site meets the criteria for listing on the National Register of Historic Places under Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act. During this phase of work formal excavation units are employed, and other methods as appropriate.

Lithic Analysis

In addition to providing survey and site evaluation, we also provide expert analysis and reporting of lithic (stone) artifacts to other archaeological consultants and researchers, lending our expertise and enhancing the capacity of our partners. Lithic analysis services we provide include debitage analysis employing an Individual Flake Analysis approach, lithic type identification and source determination, and use-wear analysis.
